It is a humbling thrill to create. All my favorites (Schiele, Inness, Goya, Diebenkorn, Klimt) got more out of their hands than their brains could possibly take credit for. Each day I set out to stir up conditions where those moments might happen for me, too. If I get it right, I forget I'm making a picture.

I stage battles between complementary opposites - spacial vs. graphic, real vs. imagined, control vs. intuition, and then also exploring the ridiculous, the ugly, to see if I can make it add up to beauty.
